BrickMMO is a Smart City Development Platform built using only LEGO® bricks.

BrickMMO was created as an experimental smart-city platform that provides students with a practical environment in which to explore and apply these technologies through programming. Rather than learning advanced concepts in isolation, students can develop software that interacts with a physical and digital city, allowing them to experiment with real-world systems and see the results of their work.
The platform has grown into a collection of interconnected applications and technologies, including:
A fill list of applications can be viewed here:

Together, these systems create a miniature smart city in which students can develop, test, integrate, and demonstrate advanced programming concepts in an applied environment.
BrickMMO has one important rule:
Everything must be made from LEGO® bricks.

This constraint serves two purposes:
Encouraging innovation - Students cannot simply purchase existing hardware and copy solutions. Building systems such as GPS or autonomous vehicles from LEGO® forces students to understand the problem, develop their own solutions, and experiment with new approaches.
Making technology approachable - Advanced technologies such as AI, GPS, and autonomous vehicles can be intimidating. LEGO® provides a familiar, accessible medium that allows students to explore complex technologies with confidence.
Although BrickMMO was initially designed for programming students, the project quickly expanded beyond programming. Building a smart city requires a range of skills, and students from Graphic Design, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Multimedia, and other programs have contributed to the project.
BrickMMO is an ongoing project with no defined endpoint. Students are challenged to continue adding real-world applications and systems to the city until the smart city comes alive. Each new system creates opportunities for students to explore new technologies, solve new problems, and build upon the work of previous students.
The Smart City Development Platform has been used to create other projetcs such as Lystex.

Lystex is a LEGO®-based escape room set on an alien planet. Participants must use an Xbox controller to navigate a Mars rover back to the command centre before the planet explodes.
